A MAN was hit n the face so hard he was knocked unconscious after leaving a cashpoint.

Consett Police said the incident happened on Front Street in the town during the early hours of Friday, December 9, near to Barclays Bank.

"A male has come from the cash point area and has been walking towards The Lotus House takeaway," a spokesman said. 

"An unknown person has come up behind him and has hit him in the face causing him to be knocked unconscious. The offender has then ran off and has got into the passenger side of a vehicle and made off.

"The injured person has been assisted by several females that managed to help before his friends have managed to get him home."
