VILLAGERS are being asked for their views on a new mobile Post Office service.

The Post Office in Ebchester, near Consett, closed in February but, since November 22, the village is being served by a new mobile service.

A mobile service, run by the postmaster of Sherburn Post Office near Durham, will operate twice a week from the community centre car park at the Village Hall in Shaw Lane.

Services will be available every Tuesday and Thursday between 1145am and 12:45pm.

The same range of services will be available and customers will be able to collect benefits in cash.

A six-week public consultation exercise on the mobile service is now underway which will close on January 20.

Gail Burnett, Network Operations Manager said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

She added: “We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs”.
