A WOMAN has raised £5,000 to say ‘thank you’ to a charity for caring for her mother.
Adele Whitfield, 38, staged a Halloween party in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support at The Grove and Moorside Community Club, near Consett.
Her mother, Brenda, was diagnosed with bowel cancer last May and has had a tumour removed and 12 chemotherapy sessions.
The charity helped support her and the family throughout her treatment.
Adele, a mother-of-one, who runs Scrubbers cleaning business in Consett with her mother, said: “It went really well. There was a massive turnout. It holds 250 and we had a full house. We had a lot of prizes donated by our customers and members of the community.”
The event on October 29 was dubbed Fright Night with live singers, a disco, prize bingo and a ‘winbola’ stall, where every ticket won a prize.
Everyone came in spooky fancy dress, including Adele’s cousin, singer Zoe Birkett, who was Regan, from The Exorcist.
Brenda said: “Everyone was unbelievably generous.”
