A LOCAL artist has designed a Christmas card celebrating his town’s history.

Consett-based artist Michael James has produced a seasonal image of Middle Street from the early 20th Century as his third picture in a series of five.

It shows the Wesleyan Methodist Church, the town hall building, Potts’s clock, Christ Church and small brass band playing outside shop

The Christmas cards have been commissioned by Consett Brass.

Bandmaster David Jackson said: “It is obviously a December night and they are playing carols.

“It is a festive scene once again and the series has been received remarkably well. Last year we had to order more cards.

“Michael James is a fine artist and captures the spirit of Consett in days gone by.

“People want that because it is their memories and there is a Christmas theme.”

The pictures are to commemorate the centenary of the First World War, with more being produced every year until 2018.

The cards cost £3 for five to cover costs.
