A COMMUNITY band is tuning up for a festive concert early next month.
Christmas with the Salvation Army features the Consett branch’s band, songsters and youngsters from Consett Junior School.
The seasonal show is at Christ Church in Consett on Friday, December 2 at 7pm in aid of Cancer Research UK.
It will be attended by civic dignitaries, including Sue Snowdon, the Lord Lieutenant of County Durham, and Pat Glass, MP for North-West Durham.
Band secretary Mel Soulsby said: “Rehearsals for it have been going on since the summer holidays and people can expect a real Christmassy celebration with an accent on young people.
“It is a community event and it is for a very worthy charity.
“There are one or two people who are band members of the Salvation Army who have had cancer.
“Christ Church is the biggest venue in Consett, except for the Empire, in terms of seating capacity so we are really looking forward to welcoming a lot of people there.”
Tickets cost £5 and are available from The Salvation Army or by calling 01207-504795.
