A WEEKLY volunteer-run cafe has opened at a hospice.

The launch night held at The Willows cafe raised more than £600 for Willow Burn Hospice, near Lanchester.

The cafe will be open every Monday from 10.30am to 2pm at the hospice in the grounds of Maiden Law hospital.

Judith Plews, catering assistant at the hospice, said: “We are excited to have opened The Willows, the aim of the venture is to raise public awareness of the hospice and to raise funds towards our new in-patient unit.

“All of our profits go towards this and benefit the future patients from the Derwentside area, which is great.”

Pumphreys Coffee donated a coffee machine, with raffle and tombola prizes for The Willows’ launch night earlier this month.

Money raised from weekly cafe will go towards the hospice’s expansion plans.
