THOUSANDS of people converged on a village for its annual country show at the weekend.

The 64th Lanchester Country, staged at Newhouses Farm, on the A691 near Lanchester on Sunday (July 3) featured horse classes - including jumping and showing - along with a vintage tractor show and crafts.

Lanchester Agricultural Society chairman Sue Whitehouse said: “We had a fabulous day. The weather was very kind.

“We have changed the show around dramatically over the last two years to make it more a local country show for people in Lanchester.

“We put a lot of time effort into new attractions and trade stands, with a lot of events for children.

“The craft stands featured good quality products and an industrial tent had adult and children’s’ exhibitions this year.

“Horrible Histories author Terry Deary presented the prizes.”

Hall Hill Farm was at the show with their Great Lamb National race, with Crazy Creatures mobile petting zoo giving young people the chance to get up close to snakes and reptiles.

Lanchester Guiding had a crafting activity tent, while Mark Wylie with his sheepdog and duck display team the Drakes of Hazard, were a popular attraction.
