A WOMAN has been cut free from the wreckage after a serious accident near Consett.
The crash occurred this morning on the Leadgate Roundabout.
The woman was taken to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
Her condition is not yet known.
A man was taken to University Hospital of North Durham.
Fire crews from Consett and High Handenhold used cutting equipment to release the trapped woman.
The road was closed in both directions causing long delays for motorists in the area but has since reopened.
