A CHARITY beer festival in north Durham is being held over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

There are twenty five real ales supplied from local breweries such as Wylam and twenty ciders for people to try at Lanchester Cricket Club.

The beer and cider festival is now in its third year.

On the Saturday, the event will once again support the Bubble Appeal.

Last year, £2,000 was raised for the children’s charity at the event.

The following day, money will be raised for Henry Dancer Days, which was set up following the death of a local school boy who died after suffering from a rare form of cancer.

A spokesman for the cricket club said: “Many local businesses are sponsoring beers and ciders as the event brings in business to the village during the weekend.”

Life@Durham Gate are once again the main event sponsor, while Sustain Landscapes are sponsoring the commemorative glasses.

Lanchester butcher and delicatessen, Hanley and Swinbank are supplying the food during the event.

There will be entertainment from The Smokin Spitfires who are playing on the Saturday night after the cricket.

Sunday will see The Castells start the entertainment, followed by The Four Forty Ones and rounded off by the Pretty Weeds.

Tickets can be bought for £5 in advance either at the cricket club or through the Lanchesterbeerfestival.co.uk website or will be £7 on the day.
