A PERFORMER from north Durham has earned a place in a show with a national company.

Courtney Scott, 21, from Consett, has won a part in Fight Like A Girl with the Youth Music Theatre UK.

She auditioned at a three-hour workshop in Newcastle and was scored on her acting, singing and dance.

Over 2,000 people auditioned from all over the country for 300 places.

In summer, she will spend two weeks in Halifax preparing of the show, which is at the Viaduct Theatre on August 13 and 14.

Miss Scott said: “This is an incredible opportunity with the YMT as I will be given the chance to network with industry professionals.

“To do this project I have to raise £1,500 to cover course fees, travel and accommodation for the two weeks.

“I have applied for numerous grants and have a part time job but I am looking for any form of sponsorship.”

Miss Scott has been in many local productions in Consett, most recently as Fantine in Les Miserables with Consett YMCA’s Act On Theatre Group.

She has been travelling to London every weekend for two years to train with West End Masterclass and does six hours of intensive dance rehearsals with the London Elite Dance Company on Saturdays.
