WINDOWS at an Indian takeway were smashed by a gang with a hammer.
The attack was carried out at Viceroy Tandoori Takeaway on Station Road, in Consett, between 9.30pm and 10pm on Friday.
A spokesman for the business, which has been in the area for 30 years, said it was thought the attack could be racially motivated.
He said: “They were males and they approached the business with a hammer in their hand
“They smashed one window and left a crack in the other. Before they left the scene they dropped the hammer and ran off.
“We have informed the police and forensics now have the hammer.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101.
