CYCLISTS are being urged to get on their bikes in the name of charity.

On Sunday, April 17 at 10am, The Rotary Club of Consett is staging a ‘Ride to the Top and Back Again’ charity cycling event.

Depending on their ability, cyclists can either choose to do a ten-mile ride from Lanchester to Knitsley Farm Shop and back, or a longer 28-mile ride from Lanchester to Park Head Station in Stanhope.

Entry is £5 per person and children under-16 are free, although they must be accompanied by an adult.

Maureen Bennett, Past-President of the Rotary Club of Consett, said: “This is the first time we have staged an event like this so we are hoping it will appeal to the cycling community in County Durham

“The ride will take people on the picturesque Lanchester and Waskerley Way and there will be marshals along the route to guide people and ensure everything goes smoothly.

“Whatever route people opt to take, there is no obligation to complete the full distance; it’s all about having fun and enjoying our lovely countryside.

“All the money we raised will go to local charities, so we are hoping as many people as possible will take part.

“We would like to thank the Derwent Valley Area Action Partnership for their support and grant to promote the event.”

People who like to ride in the event can request an entry form by emailing Brian Stobbs on jbstobbs@gmail.com or calling 01207-504617.
