A WOMAN who was trapped in her car after a road accident in County Durham has been released and taken to hospital.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the collision on Wilk's Hill, Quebec, near Durham City, at around 10am on Wednesday morning.

A Ford Fiesta and Peugeot 5008 had collided and a woman, who was complaining of back pain, was trapped in one of the vehicles. 

She was subsequently released and transported to the University Hospital of North Durham, the extent of her injuries are not known.

A spokesman for Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue tweeted: "Crews from Consett and Durham are attending an RTC in Quebec where they are in the process of extricating a female adult who is trapped."
