FLORAL tributes have been left at the scene where a teenager suffered fatal injuries yesterday morning. (Monday, January 18)

Emergency services were called after the 19-year-old woman was found badly hurt near her bike.

She was lying on the pavement on Iveston Road, Delves Lane, Consett at around 6.19am.

She was taken to hospital, but died as a result of her injuries.

The woman’s death has come a shock to people who live in the area.

Margaret Woodhouse, 71, who lives nearby, said: “I got up make myself a cup of tea and I saw the blue lights flashing through the window.

“There were three ambulances and the police. They had the square cordoned off as well as the field behind.

“This is a quiet place usually, we just cannot believe it. It is terrible.”

Another neighbour said: “She was just a young girl. It is very sad for her family.”

Police do not believe the incident is suspicious and are not trying to trace anyone in relation to the death.
