A COMMUNITY boxing club is holding a charity night to raise money next month.

Consett YMCA Boxing Club is staging the race night at its Parliament Street headquarters on Friday, November 13, from 7.30pm.

Tickets are £1 with a free door raffle and the aim is raise funds to support the running of the club.

Consett YMCA chief executive Billy Robson said: “Tickets are available or from the gym or on training nights.

“Please come along and support the event and have a good social evening at the same time.”

Earlier this year the club changed its name from being Booker Boxing Club after ex-club secretary Gary McCrory, brother of former world champion Glenn McCrory, left.

Mr Robson said: “The club would like to say ‘thank you’ to Gary for his work over the years he was here.”

Members train four times a week with boxing on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6pm till 7pm, and boxercise on Tuesday and Friday evenings from 6pm till 7pm.

The club’s first boxing show is at Derwent Manor Hotel on Friday, February 19 with tickets costing £30 for a three course meal and ten bouts of boxing.

Anyone interested in buying tickets or sponsoring the event should call Mr Robson 01207-502-680.
