A CRAFT club has created a patchwork quilt to help the Great North Air Ambulance raise funds.

Ten members of The Craft and Chat Club at Leadgate Community Centre, near Consett, in County Durham, created the quilt, which has been donated to the charity to raffle.

The double bed-sized piece is made out of hexagonal shaped pieces, machine stitched together.

Centre treasurer and group tutor Jennifer Walker said: “It is a great achievement for the group.

“It brings together people from all ages in the community, from 87-years-old downward.

“They get together and chat about all kinds of subjects. The younger generation are very interested to learn about how things were made from rags from old clothes.

“I am very proud of what they have done. It was a real team effort.”

Mrs Walker said the group meets on Thursdays from 1pm to 3pm and new members are always welcome.

She added: “People can come along and do whatever craft they enjoy, whether it is sewing, knitting or crochet.

“They need not do anything all if they do not want to. They can just come along for a coffee and chat.

"Last year the club created a patchwork quilt for the Willow Burn Hospice, near Lanchester."
