A NURSE is to take part in a twilight walk in memory of her friend.

Lisa Clarke, from Consett, will be joined by her family and friends at the Walk To Remember event taking place at Gibside on September 5.

She will take part with her son Roan, aged five, daughter Faye, aged four, and friends Jacky Walton, Judith Barsby, Jeanette Nickson, Rachel Barron and Fleur Pinkerton, who will be bringing their children too.

She hopes to raise more than £300 for the charity in memory of her friend Leslie Slavin, who died in January.

Lisa was inspired to become a Marie Curie nurse following the tragic deaths of her grandfather, father and brother in the space of three years.

She now provides medical care and emotional support through the night for people with terminal illnesses in the comfort of their own homes.

She said: “Gaining first-hand experience of the trauma and grief that surrounds the loss of loved ones prompted me to apply to become a Marie Curie nurse as I really wanted to give something back and support other local families in similar circumstances.”

Hundreds of people are expected to take part in the 10k walk, which takes place from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.

Registration is £10 per person in advance or £20 on the night and children go free.

There is a minimum fundraising target of £100, with all funds helping Marie Curie.

Everyone taking part will be invited to write a personal message on a memory lantern at the start of the night.

After the walk, the lanterns will be lit and walkers can enjoy a picnic, followed by live music and then fireworks at 10pm, to coincide with the time that Marie Curie nurses across the country are starting their nightshift.
