A PUB which stands on the County Durham and Northumberland border has been included in a prestigious visitor guide.

The Lord Crewe Arms, in Blanchland, was included as an award winner in the pub with rooms category in Sawday’s Special Places, which lists more than a thousand of Britain’s best pubs.

The guide, which is in its 12th year, said those that opted to stay at the Lord Crewe Arms – a Grade II* listed inn – were in for a treat with bedrooms containing soft carpets, fine fabrics, divine beds and deep baths.

It also hailed the pub’s classy country décor and the robust modern British menu put together by Simon Hicks, formerly head chef at Hix in Soho.

The Lord Crewe Arms was one of 15 award winners chosen for the guide.

Toby Sawday, managing director of Sawday’s, said: “Competition for our annual awards has never been fiercer, these 15 winners really embody the Sawday’s spirit of special, demonstrating creativity and excellence in a changing and challenging industry.”
