CHILDREN who raised money for Guide Dogs have named a new trainee puppy.

Pupils at Shotley Bridge Junior School in Shotley Bridge, near Consett have raised £1,500 for the Guide Dogs for the Blind charity over the past year by organising raffles, discos and stalls.

Some even donated their pocket money to the cause.

As a way of thanking them, the charity allowed them to name a new guide dog puppy.

The name they chose was Rhubarb; and Rhubarb, who is just four months old, visited the youngsters in school today (Monday, July 13).

Lee Gourley, whose son George attends the school, is registered blind. The fundraising link has been going for more than two years.

Mr Gourley said: “It’s a real legacy. It’s brilliant that they’re continuing to raise money.

“It’s really moving the amount of time and effort they’ve put in for Guide Dogs.”
