YOUNG people in north Durham are preparing to stage their latest live show.

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, based on the book by CS Lewis, is being performed by Spotlight Community Theatre Productions.

It runs at the Empire Theatre in Consett from Tuesday to next Saturday, a 2pm matinee performance on the last day.

The company has promoted the show by placing a lion's giant paw prints outside their homes, schools and businesses.

Aslan, the lion from Narnia, appeared in Blackhill and Consett Park on Saturday then made his way into the town centre as part of the publicity campaign.

Helen Vine, who co-directing the show with Jayne Clennell, said: “We have already caught the imagination of quite a few people because we have been going out and putting random paw prints out around the community.

“It has created quite a storm on Facebook and social media sites. People were starting to get a bit narky thinking it is dog thieves, so we decided to reveal it was Aslan. It is a really lovely family show with nice music and the set is beautiful."

Doors open at 6.30pm and the show starts at 7pm. Tickets cost £7 to £9, except on the first night when all tickets cost £5. They can be booked by calling 01207 218171.
