TWO women have been taken to hospital following a collision earlier today.

The accident happened at the junction of the B6309 and Front Street, Ebchester, north Durham, at about 10.30am.

A police spokesman said: “A Peugeot 106 and Toyota RAV4 have collided causing the Toyota come to a stop on its side.

“The driver of the Peugeot, 59, and the driver of the Toyota, 62, both women, from the Consett area, were taken to University Hospital of North Durham with what are thought to be non-life threatening injuries.”

The road was closed until about 1pm allow the emergency services to deal with the incident and clear the carriageway.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call the police on 101.
