WORK is to start next month on improvements to a town’s main street.
New paving and street furniture is to be installed in Front Street, in Consett, while existing planters are to be refurbished.
Durham County Council says it will also put new cycle racks and bins in the area.
The authority says the proposed improvements are part of the ongoing Consett Masterplan, designed to improve the town and its economy and says the changes will bring Front Street into line with improvements already carried out elsewhere across Consett.
Residents can find out more about the proposed improvements with displays taking place at two locations in the town centre.
The designs will be on show for the public to view at the council’s Customer Access Point, in Front Street until Friday, June 12 and at Consett Library until Tuesday, June 30.
Cllr Neil Foster, the council’s cabinet member for economic regeneration, said: “The plans are the next stage of our ongoing commitment to the regeneration of Consett and we’d like everyone to come and see the proposed designs for the latest improvements.”
The proposed work is due to be undertaken between July 2015 and February 2016.
