CONCERNS are growing for the safety of a County Durham teenager who has gone missing on the eve of her 17th birthday.

Melissa O’Hara from Shotley Bridge, is due to celebrate her birthday today, Thursday.

She was last seen at her home in Cutlers Hall Road at about 6.45pm on Saturday (May 16).

Police say she has not made contact with home since then and concern is growing for her well-being.

Sergeant Denise Riley said: “Melissa has not been in touch with home since leaving early on Saturday evening and, although she is a regular user of social media, she has not posted an update on her account since late on Sunday night.

“I would appeal to her to contact us so that we know she is safe and well. If anyone has any information regarding her whereabouts we would urge them to contact Durham police on 101 quoting reference DHM-16052015-0542.”

Melissa is described as of slim build, with shoulder-length blonde hair.

When last seen she was wearing a black jacket, black leggings and black ankle boots. She may have a large cream and beige bag with her.
