SHOPPERS in Consett have flocked to a new charity shop since it opened last week.

The new Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd (SATCoL) charity shop in Middle Street, opened its doors for the first time on Thursday, April 16.

The opening ceremony was hailed a success, with dozens of shoppers queuing outside to grab a bargain.

The Salvation Army’s divisional director for community services, Gill Bedford and Captain Heather Alston gave a blessing and cut the ribbon to officially open the new shop.

SATCoL’s area manager, Anthony Cummings, said “It was fantastic to see the shop so busy on its first day of trading and we were overwhelmed that so many people came to show their support for The Salvation Army.

“We received very positive feedback about the location, layout and quality of the clothes and we’re pleased to provide the Consett community with a great new charity shop. ”

Mr Cummings added: “We are looking for volunteers at the shop and we’d like to encourage anybody interested to pop in and talk to our friendly staff.

“There are lots of tasks to get involved with, including steaming and hanging clothes, ticketing and coding and we provide training on all aspects of the work.”

Anyone who may be interested can visit the shop to find out more.
