SWIMMERS are being invited to take part in a charity challenge.

The Belle Vue Swim Centre in Consett is taking part in the annual Swimathon 2015 challenge for the Marie Curie cancer charity.

Held over the weekend of April 17 to 19, thousands of swimmers across the country are expected to take part in the challenge either as individuals or part of a team, swimming set distances between 1.5km and 5km to raise much-needed funds for the cause.

The Consett pool is one of the venues taking part in the event and registration has now opened.

Katie Searles, community fundraiser for Marie Curie in Newcastle said: ‘We would firstly like to say a huge thank you to Belle Vue Swimming Centre for getting involved with Swimathon.

“We would love to see those swimmers who have taken part before getting involved again and always welcome new swimmers to take on the challenge.

“The money raised through fundraising events like Swimathon makes such a difference to patients and families.

“It is a brilliant way to bring our community together”.
