A TEAM of trampolining teenagers from the region have taken part in a schools’ competition in Northern Ireland.
Youngsters from Consett Academy, in County Durham, travelled to Belfast at the weekend to compete in the National Schools Trampolining Championships.
The girls’ intermediate side and the boys’ novice squad will not be progressing further in the competition, but PE teacher Ailsa White said pupils had enjoyed a valuable experience.
She said: “Neither team qualified for the final but it was still really good.
“They have never been to something of that size before, such a high level competition, so it has been a really good weekend.”
The boys’ team is made up of year 11 students and the girls are in years nine and ten and are part of trampolining club at Belle Vue Leisure Centre in Consett.
The contest was on Saturday and on Sunday the team took a guided bus too of the Northern Irish capital.
Mrs White added: “We got to soak up some of the culture and went on a city sight-seeing tour so the kids got to learn about the politics of Northern Ireland and the history of the area.”
