A THEATRE group in north Durham is preparing for its latest production.

React! Youth Theatre is presenting South Pacific at The Empire Theatre in Consett next month.

The story is from World War Two, featured on two islands in the South Pacific where two parallel love stories are threatened by the dangers of racial prejudice and war.

From the 1948 novel, Tales of the South Pacific, love blooms between a young nurse and a secretive Frenchman who’s being courted for a dangerous mission.

The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical includes songs such as Some Enchanted Evening, I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair and Happy Talk.

Theatre spokesman Wendy Simmons said: “This is the very first time React! Youth Theatre has appeared on the stage of the Empire Theatre in Consett.

“The children are excited and are looking forward to delivering such a big production.”

There will be a seven piece orchestra co-ordinated by musical director Melanie Appleton while the show is directed by Ian Mordue and choreographed by Laura Walley.

It runs from Thursday to Saturday March 12-14 with evening performances at 7pm and a Saturday matinee performance at 2pm.

Tickets cost £8, £7 concessions, are available by calling 01207-218-171.
