INJURIES suffered by a woman who became trapped beneath a car after she was knocked down on a zebra crossing are no longer life-threatening, police said today. (Thursday, December 11)
The 46-year-old, from Ebchester, has been moved to a ward from the intensive care unit following the horrific incident in Consett three weeks ago.
She was dragged underneath a Vauxhall Corsa and suffered serious injuries to her head and body, but Durham Constabulary has confirmed her condition is improving.
A force spokesman said: “The pedestrian who was knocked down on the zebra crossing has been moved onto a ward from the intensive care unit and her condition has improved.
“Her injuries, though serious, are no longer considered life-threatening.”
The accident happened in Newmarket Street, Consett, County Durham, just after 3pm on Thursday, November 20.
The town centre was closed off to allow the rescue helicopter to land and the woman was flown to Royal Victoria Infirmary by the Great North Air Ambulance.
The Corsa was driven by an 85-year-old woman from the town.
A police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
