A LARGE quantity of white powder, believed to be class A drugs worth about £5,000, has been seized during a police raid.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled substances, from the address in Bridgehill, near Consett, on Friday.

A warrant was executed as part of campaign by Consett police to tackle organised crime in the area with a second raid also taking place in Consett at the same time.

Inspector Keith Wardle said: “In the past month police at Consett have seized drugs to the value of approximately £60,000.

“A large amount of cash along with stolen property has also been recovered.

“Organised criminals are making vast amounts of money from these activities, and Operation Boomerang is designed to target these individuals whose actions have a demoralising effect on our communities.

“Since the start of the operation we have observed an increase in members of the public reporting suspicious activity to the police which will assist us to address the issues in the community and I would encourage anyone with information to contact police.”
