A MAN was airlifted to hospital with serious head and pelvic injuriesthis afternoon after a collision involving two cars at Medomsley, County Durham.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) took seven minutes to fly the man to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle.
He was stabilised at the scene and anaethetised by the GNAAS trauma team and was described as being in a stable condition on arrival at hospital. His injuries were described as severe.
Two other people were also taken to the RVI by road ambulance. Their injuries are not known.
The collision happened at 1.11pm on the B6310 near East Farm Mews, Medomsley, near Consett.
Fire crews from Consett and High Handenhold attended and used hydraulic cutting equipment to free three people trapped in the wreckage.
Another two people were involved but were not believed seriously hurt.
- At 17.27 firefighters were called to Cornforth Lane, Coxhoe, to find a car had overturned but all people were accounted for and the crew from Spennymoor took no action.
