A YOUNG man who is visually impaired is taking part in a sponsored blind drive for charity.
Paul James, from Consett, County Durham, is taking part in the challenge to raise money for Guide Dogs for the Blind on June 29.
The 31-year-old has to drive a British School of Motoring dual controlled vehicle around a specially designed course at Nissan's test track in Sunderland.
Mr James, who was born with glaucoma and suffers from Lowe Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder, works for Durham County Council, helping people like himself who suffer from learning disabilities.
He said: “I am really looking forward to it because it is good to be raising money for charity.
“But it is also good to have the opportunity to show that people with learning difficulties can also go out achieve things they want and should not be held back.”
Mr James, who is unable to drive due his sight problems, has already raised almost £500 and been overwhelmed by support from friends, family and strangers.
He added: “The money that you donate goes straight to the charity. I am most grateful for any donations.”
