A CHARITY volunteer unable to attend a prestigious awards ceremony has been presented with the accolade.
Joe Rowell, 18, of Consett, was nominated for a High Sheriff’s Shrievalty Award, by staff at Consett YMCA for his dedication to youth activities.
He was at a funeral when the certificates were handed out at Durham Castle last week.
So a special presentation was held at the YMCA base in Parliament Street, Consett, today.
Consett YMCA chief executive Billy Robson said: “He has been a consistent presence at the YM, helping out in the Junior Youth Club since he was fifteen year old.
“Joe is always happy and cheerful and joins in all games to ensure that all the young people have a great time while they are there.
“Joe volunteers on activities with young people who attend the Alternative Education Provision group, ensuring that each young person is given the encouragement and support required. He has a selfless approach and always puts other people before himself.”
