A NATIONAL restaurant chain is to create 40 jobs with the opening of a new outlet.

Tiger Bills is to open a 180-cover restaurant in Consett, taking over the premises of Giovanni's which closed last year.

The Thai and Tex Mex restaurant is due to open near the new Tesco store on the former steelworks site in late November or early December.

The company says it has made a "substantial" investment in refurbishing the premises, which originally opened as Soprano’s in 2007.

Tiger Bills already operates a number of sites in the South and The Midlands and is now expanding into the region, having recently opened its first North-east venue in Whitley Bay.

Around 40 full-time and part-time staff will be employed at the Puddlers Corner premises.
