DRYBURN Theatrical Workshop is staging the musical Billy Liar.

The production tells the story of Billy Fisher tries to escape the drudgery of his life with daydreams and extravagant lies.

The show is being staged from tonight Yuesday June 12 to Friday June 15 in the Park View Community Theatre, Chester-le-Street, at 7.15pm.

Malcolm Quinn, chairman of Dryburn Theatrical Workshop, said, "This promises to be another hugely entertaining show – funny, fast-paced and full of great music.

"The original production of Billy in 1974 starred Michael Crawford, in his first leading role in the West End, and Elaine Paige, and we hope to bring some of the West End to the North-East."

Billy Liar is based on the book by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, best known for The Likely Lads and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.

The music is by award-winning composer John Barry and the lyrics by Oscar winner Don Black.

Tickets are £9 for adults and £8 for children and concessions, with all seats on the opening night available for £8.

They can be booked on 0191-388-3362 or at general@dryburntheatricalworkshop.co.uk.
