AIR cadets from 1507 (Chester-Le-Street) Squadron joined forces with squadron president and local councillor Tracie Smith to clean up the Chester-le-Street area.

In total 23 cadets and four staff picked up litter in communal areas across the town, collecting more than 20 bags of rubbish. Major Liz Hancock, squadron padre and chaplain at the Chester-le-Street Salvation Army Church, organised the litter pick on behalf of the squadron, working closely with Cllr Smith who provided the equipment. Flight Lieutenant Burton, officer commanding 1507 (Chester-le-Street) Squadron said: “It is great we have such a great link into the community through Councillor Smith. I believe it is important for the cadets to be involved in the town, not only because it is the right thing to do but because it is important that the community see young people positively contributing to the area they live in.”
