A TEAM of young footballers is sporting a new strip.

Birtley Town Juniors’ under elevens football team is being supported by a local developer which has provided the team with new kits.

Avant Homes paid for the gear for the team, which is part of a community football club run by volunteers.

Stephen Minto, the team’s coach, said: “The continuing existence of small, community teams, such as Birtley Town, depends on kind donations and I’m grateful Avant Homes has supported the team for this year.

“The new strips look fantastic and the team are doing themselves proud this season.”

Avant is currently building 123 homes on the former British Oxygen factory site, next to the A167, and has outline planning permission for a further houses in April.

The Barley Gate development, is near where the team trains, at Birtley Sports Complex.

Scott Varley, managing director for Avant Homes North-East, said: “We’re committed to supporting the communities around our new homes developments and are delighted to be able to sponsor Birtley Town Juniors’ under eleven football team and wish them the very best of luck for the season.”
