RESIDENTS are expected to come out in force when a town’s Christmas lights are switched on.

Chester-le-Street’s Christmas lights will be turned on during an event in the Market Place on Thursday, November 30.

The evening, organised by Chester-le-Street and District AAP, will start at 4.15pm, hosted by writer and director Maxie Peters.

The winners of a colouring competition organised by the Chester-le-Street and District Business Association will help turn on the lights, while there will be music from Churches Together and the trio North Road.

Mick Rodgers, chair of the Development of Chester-le-Street Town task group, said: “Christmas is a time for communities to get together and we would encourage everyone to come and enjoy the lights and performances on offer.”

Shops in the town centre will stay open late so customers can make a start on their Christmas shopping.
