A BOY had the chance to say thank you to “superhero” cops who saved the day while they were on duty at a pop concert.
Durham Police officers Gavin Purdon and Kevin Olver were on duty at the Little Mix concert in Chester-le-Street on Saturday.
Christopher Storey, from Chester-le-Street, was nervous about attending the event following the attack on an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester in May.
But after being approached by the eight-year-old’s mother Carolyn, the armed officers were able to reassure him.
Christopher said: “I felt like I was at 25 per cent and I went to 100 per cent. I just changed. He changed all my feelings and made me feel really, really safe.”
He has now made a card addressed to the “superhero” cops who made his night and presented the officers with medals when he visited police headquarters .
PC Purdon said: “It’s overwhelming. I wasn’t sure what the public would think about us being at a pop concert where there’s a lot of children. It’s a really nice feeling to know we are able to do our job well.
“I’m fully aware when we carry firearms it can seem intimidating but that’s not what we want.”
