FORCES’ veterans are invited to the first of what may become regular social get-togethers in a town centre pub.
The informal “call-to-arms” has been made by former sailor Harry Burn, from Chester-le-Street, who has sounded out a few other ex-service people in the town over a proposed monthly breakfast gathering at a Front Street watering hole.
He plans to stage the first at the Wicket Gate, on July 30, at 9.30am, with the aim of initially repeating it on the final Sunday each month.
“It would be for any ex-servicemen or women, as an informal breakfast get-together, just for a chat and a bit of reminiscence.
“We’ve heard of similar gatherings in other places which have become regular events, so we’re hoping it catches on just the same.
“Anyone coming can have a breakfast, a coffee, or even a pint and enjoy the company.”
