AN OUTGOING golf club captain has been thanked for the charity fundraising he has done over the last year.

David Syson chose Durham County Carers Support (DCCS) as his charity of the year during his year as captain of Chester-le-Street Golf Club

He and his wife, Ruth, son Andrew, friends and family have hosted a wide range of events, including a Captain’s Day, selling Four Balls, holding the Captains membership draw and various social events and raffles and donations from members.

Their efforts reallised a grand total of £2,200, which included a top up donation from club treasurer Neil Cuthbert.

The couple care for their son Peter and felt they know first-hand how difficult a caring role can be.

They wanted to do something to thank Durham County Carers Support for their help over the years and raise awareness of the work of the charity in the area.

The Syson family have thanked everyone who helped them to raise this significant amount and wished Harold Howey all the best in his captaincy year in 2017/18.

Volunteer co-ordinator Andrea Emerson was presented with the cheque at Chester-le-Street Golf Club, by Mr and Mrs Syson and Mr Cuthbert.

Attending the presentation was friends and volunteers Brenda Johnstone and Carol Mackenzie, and sister-in-law Jill Syson. Ms Emerson , who helped at Captains Day said “I am very proud of our Volunteers who have helped David and Ruth, who is also a Volunteer with us, with all the activities over the past year.

“I know a lot of hard work has gone on behind the scenes to raise this amazing amount of money.”

Jenni Wood, CEO of DCCS said, “This is a fantastic amount of money which will enable us to continue to fund projects like Carers’ Counselling sessions, the Carers’ Transport fund and our current project to fund an apprentice starting in April 2018. It is very much appreciated.”
