MEMBERS of a community are working together to spruce up their local area.

Residents of North Lodge, Chester-le-Street, have teamed up with Park View School students in preparation for the Northumbria In Bloom competition.

It has been 20 years since North Lodge entered the competition but residents decided it was time for a comeback so young people were asked to design a poster to publicise this year’s entry.

They entered their designs and the winner was chosen by representatives from the North Lodge In Bloom Group.

Chairman John Murray, Durham County Councillor Peter May and North Lodge Parish Council chairman Elsie Forrester attended the school recently to present voucher prizes to the winner, Sophie Carmody along with runner ups Holly Blades and Patrick Anderson.

Morag Wilson, assistant headteacher at Park View School, said: “We would like to thank local residents for supporting our students to make the local area look better. “

Judging is in April and July.
