TWO teenagers have appeared in court charged with the murder of a North-East dad.

Zoe Warren, 19, and Kieran Adey, 18, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court by videolink today. (Monday, March 13)

They are both accused of killing 29-year-old Mark Shaw, known as ‘Sharky’, before Christmas.

It is understood Miss Warren was Mr Shaw’s girlfriend.

The father-of-one was found dead in a bedroom of his house in Pine Street, Grange Villa, near Chester-le-Street, in County Durham.

Mr Shaw had been subjected to a prolonged attack, but a post mortem examination has revealed he died from a single stab wound.

Miss Warren, whose address was given, as Hexham, Washington, and Mr Adey, of Queen Street, Grange Villa, have not yet entered formal pleas.

Prosecutor Michael Bunch said: “The defendants appear at different stages in the process. Zoe Warren appears in crown court for the first time, having been sent by magistrates last week.

“Mr Adey appears to vary the date fixed for trial, currently June 19.”

No representations were made on behalf of Miss Warren by her barrister Caroline Goodwin QC.

Appearing for Mr Adey, Toby Hedworth said: “Our part of this hearing is application to vacate the hearing on June 19.

“It was known when it was listed that I would be unable to represent Mr Adey on that date.

“The defendant is anxious that I should represent him.”

A new trial date has been fixed for both defendants on October 3 and is expected to last eight to ten days.

A pre-trial hearing has been arranged for April 6 and they will be remanded into custody until then.

Two men, aged 22 and 19, and an 18-year-old woman, remain on police bail while inquiries continue.
