STORIES inspired by local women, including inmates at Low Newton Prison, will form the basis of a stage production.
Chester-le-Street community project Aspire Learning, Support and Wellbeing will celebrate International Women’s Day with a women-only preview performance of Sugar.
Staged by award-winning theatre company Open Clasp, the show will be performed at the Cornerstones Centre, Chester le Street Methodist Church on Thursday at 7pm and aims to give a voice to marginalised groups.
Aspire director, Jan Vincent, said: “International Women’s Day is a special time for us as we join women across the world in celebrating achievement and supporting calls for a brighter, safer and more equal future for women and girls.
“We are delighted Open Clasp are helping us mark the occasion by bringing a new and exciting piece of theatre to women in Chester le Street.”
Events to mark International Women’s Day are taking place all week at Aspire’s centre, which is located behind Front Street.
Women are invited to share their stories on this year’s theme of “Be Bold For Change” and attend a drop-in event on Thursday from 9.30am with refreshments and quiz organised by staff and volunteers.
