A POP-UP cinema in a community centre is set for its first official screenings.
The Pictures Chester-le-Street Cinema will be playing the classic film The Notebook on Thursday March 16 followed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story the following night.
The high-quality cinema complete with surround sound was created by Park View Community Centre with part-funding from Durham County Councillors Katherine Henig, Peter May and Keith Davidson.
Centre manager Stewart Doyle said: “The Pictures Chester-le-Street will screen some of the biggest blockbusters just weeks after the mainstream cinemas, as well as classic films that haven’t been on the big screen for years.”
To enhance the cinema experience there will be popcorn, hotdogs, sweets and a range of refreshments on offer.
Andrew Megginson, of Chester-le-Street and District Area Action Partnership, said: “It is a fantastic idea and will be a real asset to Chester-le-Street.”
Tickets for the opening night cost £5 for adults, £2.50 for accompanied children.
