The Durham branch of the Western Front Association is to hold a one-day conference and exhibition in Chester-le-Street on October 14.

Among the military experts lined up to speak are Dr David Murphy, of Maynooth University in Ireland, who will give a presentation on the Nivelle Offensive and Prof Eric Gore, of Liverpool Hope University, who will discuss the 1917 U-Boat campaign.

Other speakers include Dr Matthias Strohn, of the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, on German defences at Ypres, and Dr Bryn Hammond, of the Imperial War Museum, who will discuss the Battle of Cambrai.

The conference takes place at Cornerstones in Chester-le-Street. Tickets, priced £25 including lunch, are available on 0759 4964930.
