CHILDREN brought hampers to the elderly and raised money to help others across the world grow enough food.

Pupils at St Bede’s primary school in Sacriston held a Harvest liturgy and food collection as part of a fundraising campaign by Catholic aid agency Cafod.

Children brought in food from home and made up hampers. Some were sold, raising more than £80 for the charity, and others distributed to village old folk.

Acting head teacher Eve McMann said: “The children brought in such a wonderful variety of food and tinned goods.

“As we are a member of the Fair Share group, Tesco also donated fruit and vegetables.

“On Harvest day, we took some of the hampers to old people’s homes in an act to brighten up their Harvest day too”.
