CONSTRUCTION will start in the next few weeks of 22 affordable homes for rent.

Cestria Community Housing is working with developer Galliford Try Partnerships on a £2.7m project to build the homes at Waldridge Road, in Chester-le-Street.

The development, scheduled to be complete next summer, includes 20 two-bedroom houses and two one-bedroom apartments.

Cestria manager Stephen Riding said: “This is a great site for us to develop.

“We know there is significant demand for this type of property within the area, and we’re delighted to be working with Galliford Try to bring this project to fruition.

“We want to thank Durham County Council for working with us to bring the project forward, to ensure these vital affordable homes can be built, and help to meet the needs of the community in Chester le Street.”
