THOUSANDS of children are enjoying a feast of fun in a town’s market place this week.

A range of fun activities for all the family are on offer in Chester-le-Street, from 10am to 3pm every day until Friday.

The events are co-ordinated by Durham Constabulary in conjunction with the Area Action Partnership, county councillors and local businesses.

PCSO Adrian Richards of the town’s neighbourhood policing team said: “We have had about 5,000 people down here every day.

“The event gives a focus to the the school children during the holidays and it does reduce anti-social behaviour.

“They come down here to burn off energy and mix with friends and adults.”

Included in the free activities are bouncy castles, a climbing wall, rodeo bull, human demolition ball, Gladiator joust, inflatable maze, slides and assault course or a bungee run.

There are also aid demonstrations, badge making, face painting and temporary tattoo sessions.

St John Ambulance, the YMCA, Sunderland AFC’s Foundation of Light, police dogs Jet and Ben, pirate storyteller, Captain Raggy Beard and the police motorcycle team are also there.
