A MAN suspected of carrying out a daytime attack that has left a man seriously injured has appeared in court.
Lee Alexander, 35, of Pelaw Crescent, Chester-le-Street, County Durham, appeared before magistrates sitting at Peterlee this morning.
He is charged with a section 18 assault occasioning grievous bodily harm with intent.
A man in his 20s remains in a serious but stable condition at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
He was attacked near the Job Centre on Station Road at 1pm on Wednesday.
Alexander has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Durham Crown Court on September 9.
