A PUBLIC consultation event on a major housing scheme is being held next week.

People are being asked for their views on plans to create 140 new homes in Chilton Moor near Houghton-le-Spring.

Story Homes and North East Building and Developments Limited (NEBDL) will consult with the public on plans to get outline planning permission to build mixture of two, three and four bedroom homes.

Laura Kingston, Story Homes spokesman, said: “The development would inevitably bring economic benefits to the area during the construction phase, including the creation of jobs for local sub-contractors and knock-on support for local businesses and supply chains.”

The companies have said they will be in keeping with the surrounding area and there will also be an element of affordable housing on site.

Richard Newsome, planner at Story Homes, said: “This consultation event is an opportunity for residents from the local area to understand the proposals and come forward with comments to help inform the final plans for the development.”

After the consultation, all responses will be reviewed and where possible incorporated into the proposed development.

The public consultation, which will include experts and information boards, for the Chilton Moor development will take place on Tuesday, July 5 between 3pm and 7pm at the Chilton Country Pub and Hotel, Black Boy Road, Fencehouses.
